    Tempting features, but missing basics
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I requested that my mom buy this backpack for me. What can I say, I was suckered by the marketing and by the features (stirrups, removeable kid’s pack); and the lack of reviews on amazon didn’t help. The one I got is the 2008 version, I reckon the 2009 has been updated, but since Phil and Ted don’t really indicate anywhere on their product info, either on amazon or elsewhere what the differences are b/n the two model years, it’s hard to be sure.

    Pros:

    Lightweight: 4 pounds 4 ounces

    Excellent padding

Foot stirrups (seem like a excellent thought, but I have no thought if they really are).

Changing pad with zippable pocket for dirty diapers

Sun/rain shade; though it would allow rain to fall down your baby’s back, but maybe all of them would. Small claustrophobic, too, as it sits pretty close to your baby

    Cons:

KICKSTAND SUCKS: The kick stand is inside of the storage area of the pack, so you would have to unload everything to use it. Not to mention it would be impossible to zip it back up and in as a single person–you need someone standing behind you. This also means you can’t take your baby off by yourself, which has some safety implications. I reckon this aspect as been fixed in the 2009 version, based on the pictures which show an exterior kickstand.

Terrible product directions. Arrows are unclear, and just generally not clear enough.

No way to know what the “right” fit is. It doesn’t show where the best place is for the baby (how high s/he should sit), or the pack, i.e. where it should be positioned on your hips/back.

Insufficient height adjustment. I am 5′ 7″, and I place this on the shortest setting, and it was still not quite right, i.e. a small too long.

Very small storage room. Maybe you wouldn’t want to place too much stuff in anyway given how much the kid ways, but still, others have far more.

Holds less weight than others; the max weight is 44 pounds, others are 50. With a 30 pound 16 month ancient, I feel like the extra pounds will give me more longevity with another carrier.

I will update this once I get whatever other carrier I get and do a comparison between the two.
