Anything but ‘ergo’
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have never felt the need to review anything in the past, but I feel this product is terribly over-rated. As an avid backpacker I am well used to carrying 40 plus pounds for many miles a day for a week at a time, and know the importance of a balanced pack that fits well and distributes the load correctly. No matter how much I adjust it, the Ergo just doesn’t work for me. It has a nice wide hip belt, but unfortunately because the shoulder straps re-attach to the pack too high up toward your armpit, baby’s weight sits not on the belt, but nearly entirely on the point of your shoulder, which in the forward carrying position pulls your shoulders forward. In addition the pack is a full 13.5 inches wide at the bottom where baby sits, requiring the poor child to split her legs straight out sideways to get into the carrier, which my 4 month ancient finds unbearable. The infant insert deals with this by providing a small cushion for baby to sit on, but now the legs face forward straight into your just-had-a-baby sized tummy where they get squashed once the pack is done up. Its also very, very hot for baby and wearer alike, and I find it awkward to get baby in and out of safely – one clip is located directly between your shoulder blades! I tried my best to like it for a full 4 months, but it just doesn’t work for me, my husband or my baby who screams every time I place her in it. I now have a BabyBjorn model with extra back support which we are thrilled with.
Disappointed
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I borrowed one from a friend before laying out the dough for this carrier, and I’m sure glad I did. The Ergo did NOT work for us. My 9-month-ancient, 23-pound DD despised being smushed against my back. I found it uncomfortable to wear, even after many attempts to adjust the straps (plus it squished my chest in VERY unflattering ways — not fantastic for a still-nursing mommy). I found I had to take her out after 20 minutes of wear, and that certainly won’t make this carrier last through a zoo trip or anything else. We’re now shopping for a baby backpack with a proper frame.
The best carrier you can get

My daughter has tried many carriers and she says this is the best, it’s very comfortable and simple to wear and my 3 month ancient grandaughter loved it.
Ergo Carrier
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I haven’t used it much but it works fantastic. I don’t feel the strain on my back like with other carriers. My 8 month ancient son even falls asleep in it if we are taking him for a walk which he doesn’t do in strollers. I have only used it on the front – have not tried the back or side carry.
Near perfect for extended wearing
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
From word of mouth and what I’ve seen, I bought the Ergo because of it’s fantastic reputation for comfort during extended wearing sessions.
It DOESN’T fail to deliver.
I started wearing baby at about 3 weeks (he’s now 13 weeks) and this has allowed for so much mobility while he’s napping on me or simply wants to hang out on mamma.
In the beginning (and I’ve seen this with other users) I did NOT snug the straps properly and sometimes felt strains on my back…but once I realized what I was doing and corrected it, I had now problems.
I’ve worn him for up to 3-5hour stretches and feel as excellent as should be expected given I’m carrying a baby on the outside.
We ordered the Camel color because we’ll be using this tons during the summer and didn’t want the added ‘heat’ issue of having a black exterior. It does show spots a bit more, but that shouldn’t be an issue given baby poop, food, and spit up are on everything anyway.
I do wish they had a better way of keeping the hood secure…the pocket only goes so far. Also, it might be better to have pockets on the waist strap rather than right behind baby’s back.
Finally, be aware that the ends of the buckle straps are folded in under elastic bands when you receive this item. Make sure you fold them out all the way. I made the mistake of not doing that, so ordered the extension. After that, I realized I already had the extra two inches I needed.
Overall, fantastic product.
the best carrier in the market
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This carrier is fantastic. We had baby bjorn for 2 children. But we could not use it for long as it started to hurt the back. After a lot of research, I found Ergo. This carrier rocks. You can’t even feel baby’s weight. The baby also finds it very comfortable. This is the best carrier in the market.
sad that we don’t like it
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We read reviews on so many different baby carriers. My husband and I both tried on so many styles in baby stores – we carried cans of formula around in them to see which ones felt the best. Ergo won, hands down. And then, our baby was born in October and we went to a super cold environment so he was not carried in the Ergo as often as we thought he would be. Now that it’s spring and he is getting heavier and we want to carry him in the Ergo – he won’t tolerate it like we hoped he would. Ugh! I guess we just have to keep putting him in it – I so want to show him how much he will like being carried around this way. So – our recommendation is to carry baby in this as often as you can, especially if you have an infant in the winter months.
I finally found the ultimate baby carrier
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my third child and I have used several different baby carriers. The Ergo is by far the very best. I can wear my 20 pound baby for hours, I can go hiking, wash dishes, do laundry and grocery shop and have my daughter happily in the Ergo. I prefer to wear her on my back, though should she fall asleep back there, I place up the hood since it holds her head from flopping back.
I am not tiny and also have a larger chest and though I did need the waist extension (sold seperately), I feel like this carrier fits me fantastic.
I did use the infant insert and though it took some adjusting to get the perfect position for her, she really loved it and so did I.
Since I use the Ergo nearly daily, it’s completely worth ever dollar I spent on it!
BEST carrier on the market
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The ERGO is the best carrier on the market. Other carriers pull on your shoulders and back, but the ERGO has a much better design. The ERGO is also a much better value for your money since you can use it with older (heavier) babies without causing back or shoulder pain.
Baby Carrier

I ordered this for my daughter in law, who is expecting a baby in July
and this was much needed. They like it!
Most Used Baby Item
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I could go on and on about how lovely this product is and how much simpler it has made my/our lives. I do but want to include some frustrations I had with the product to be honest.
I’m going to list my pros/cons to help you choose if this product is for you.
PROS:
1. We have been using this carrier since our son was 5 months ancient.
He is 22 months ancient and although we don’t use it everyday like we used to, it is still getting a lot of use. I have used this carrier while grocery shopping, running errands around town, hiking, at the beach, while traveling, while working, getting my son to sleep every night for many many months, cooking, doing dishes, cleaning. Its really helped my son stay content while I have 2 hands to go about my daily life!
2. It feels effortless carrying my son in this carrier. I’m very petite but still manage to carry my son’s 26 pounds very easily. Fantastic back support. I have worn my son in the carrier for hours on end with no pain whatsoever.
3. My son likes it. He likes the front carry especially but also likes the back carry. The hip carry helped me place him to sleep very easily when he was under a year ancient. I like having him close to me. It feels wonderful!
4. I was able to and still can breastfeed in it very easily and very discreetly on the go. The hood feature is wonderful for that. It allows you the freedom to run errands easily without having to worry about your small one getting fussy. My son preferred this carrier hands down over sitting in a grocery cart.
5. No need to lug around heavy cumbersome stroller. Its incredible freedom.
6. Pocket in front pouch is just enough room for cell phone, wallet, keys.
7. Backpack accessory has enough room for a couple diapers, a snack, and drinks and is nice to have. But, I find that I don’t really use it that much because it feels a bit bulky.
8. Son slept in it peacefully and comfortably in the front position and back position with the hood.
9. Front position very simple to learn, hip position simple to learn, back position takes a practice and patience to learn (but worth it). Initially, until I felt comfortable getting our son in it myself, I had my husband just place our son on my back.
CONS:
1. We couldn’t use this carrier until our son was 5 months. He just never tolerated the infant insert which he outgrew at about 2 months but was still too small for the carrier until he was about 5 months. It was frustrating initially, but I reckon as long as you don’t count on using it initially you won’t be disappointed.
2. Like I said, the infant insert was not useful. Our son despised the cradle carry. I don’t know about the new heart to heart insert since it wasn’t available when I bought the carrier so I can’t say if its been improved upon.
3. The back carry was VERY frustrating initially. I just wanted so terribly to use it for the back carry but my son didn’t like being on my back until he got a bit larger (at about 10 months ancient). Until then, I primarily used the front carry. But, once you get the hang of the back carry, it really becomes second nature.
4. The product is made in China. I don’t like that. I worry about the fabric and the safety of the fabric. Of course, this I never considered initially, but only after hearing other parents talking about it. I wish the company would manufacture this in the U.S. I would gladly pay more to make sure it is safe and that it hasn’t been sprayed with anything on its way over from China. I have even heard that the Organic line is sprayed too. Again, I don’t know this for a fact, just something I heard others talk about.
5. This is minor but an annoyance nontheless, when I use the carrier in the back carry position, the straps dig into my hips and make an hideous “muffin top” look. It also tends to pull down on my jeans to the point of having to wear a belt with some of my pants or risk my pants falling down (again minor but annoying). The front straps tend to also push my bust up making it look like I’m going to spill out of my shirt (and I’m an A cup!). I can imagine this might be a real problem for others. But, with a small wardrobe adjusting or selection this is a non issue.
Finally, I would buy this product again with no hesitation. It has been wonderful and useful and continues to be used and loved by our family. Hope this helps!
fantastic carrier
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
this is a perfect carrier for larger babies. for the first few months I would suggest to buy a baby bjorn but, eventually, ergo baby is going to be much more comfi for both the parent and the child (>6 months age). fantastic support, very simple to use. Fantastic carrier!
It’s ok for toddlers but gets very HOT!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought mine with infancy insert. Don’t bother with the insert. It is too uncomfortable for the baby to use this product. Wait until your baby is at least 4 months or older. By the time mine was 4 months we were both burning up when I wore it around shopping and also underneath his legs would have red marks. I did exactly as the video said to do. We do but live in the south. The summers are usually around 95 degrees. I reckon since the time I bought mine ergo came out with a lighter version. I bought the organic with fanny pack and backpack. Without putting any of the extras on it is still way to hot. I would say to everyone this is a much better product for an older baby and for cooler days say around 70 degrees and under. A screaming sweating baby makes a crazy parent. I’ve just had my second baby and I’m ordering the Kelty 1.0 this time. It has fantastic reviews so far.
Fantastic Carrier!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I tried slings and other front carriers, and was never comfortable with them. I borrowed this from a friend to try out before spending the money on it, and it was worth it straight away. With this, I’ve gone hiking, trekked through the airport, and gone on sight-seeing tours with my son. It’s sturdy and comfortable, and he’s content in it (has even slept in it, although I recommend snapping the head cover somewhat tight, as his head rolled back scary-quick the first time he fell asleep in it). I prefer having my son on the front, I don’t feel as stable with him on my back, but that may be b/c I can’t tell what he’s doing. My husband prefers carrying him on his back. It’s really simple to get on with a helper, I reckon with some practice I could do it myself. Supposedly it adjusts for hip carriage also, but we never really figured out how to do that. It holds a small amount of stuff (I’ve shoved a diaper, wipes, wallet and keys in it for quick trips). The waist strap is wide and comfortable, and an extension piece is available to make it longer (we have this too, it’s also very nice).
Fantastic carrier!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had two carriers/slings before this that I used on a regular basis and liked, but once I got this one it’s the only one I use! My daughter likes it and stays in it for long stretches of time, and I feel like her back is supported very nicely.
The hood is fantastic for naps as well as sun protection. Like the zip pocket in front too for keys etc.
Worth the money!
Use it all the time and like it!
And now he’s not trying hard to get out of my arms to get into everything on the shelves at the stores… I absolutely like this thing! Money well spent.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Many know my husband and I so like the outdoors and hiking, so we were given more than one backpack. We have 2 small backpack style child carriers for a smaller child, a sling (also for when he was smaller), and one of those nice huge ones with the metal frame. Our son is now too huge for the smaller ones. The metal frame child carrier is fantastic, but my back ends up hurting after awhile, and it really is so huge if you have limited space for traveling. The ergo is wonderful!!! So super comfortable. So super simple to use. And fantastic for small spaces. I use it all the time – from that quick run into the gas station to pay for the gas, to grocery shopping, rehearsing with the worship team, and yes hiking too. I am a lucky gal in that I don’t sweat too terrible, so I have no complaints about the heat from him being so close to me in the carrier. And I don’t care enough of what others reckon to care about my bulging gut hanging over the waist strap. I just can’t reckon of a single thing I don’t like. My son seems perfectly comfortable in it – whether I’m wearing it or my husband is. He’s even taken a nap during a long walk through the woods.
Ergo Baby Carrier
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought the Ergo baby Carrier as a gift from a relative’s baby registry. She is delighted with the carrier, especially the feature of being able to carry the baby in the front or the back.
The BEST piece of baby gear!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We bought these before traveling to Europe for a huge family vacation with our 11 month ancient twin boys and they were an absolute life saver – I shudder to imagine our trip without them. First, when I tried them at home both boys immediately loved them. They are very cozy in a comfortable position right next to you which they both instantly loved – smiling up at me contentedly. And they are comfortable to wear. I have had two serious back injuries that make me really nervous about carrying anything that will place extra strain on my back and these were fantastic. The weight is centered on your hips not your back so there is no weird pulling or strain. We wore these all over the Amalfi coast walking up and down the rocky cliffsides and never once experienced back discomfort. (We also tried the Kelty Frame Carrier which was highly rated and reviewed but both my husband and I experienced a lot of back discomfort with this and didn’t even take it on our trip)
Also, the kids sleep in them. We used them out of desperation on the flight and they both passed out for essentially the entire 8 hour flight. There is a small hood that goes over their head if they do fall asleep that shields them from the light and activity and also supports their head/ protects them from the sun etc. They napped all over Italy in these carriers. And, my nearly two year ancient nephew who was also on the trip even fell asleep when we place him into one.
One reviewer mentioned that they don’t look too flattering which may or may not be right depending on your body type but neither my wife or I found this to be a problem. I have lots of gear that I like but this is the ONLY thing I have ever written a review for, I don’t really reckon you can go incorrect with this carrier.
Saves your back! Better than Bjorn, worth the extra $
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We have a Baby Bjorn, a Snugli and an Ergo Baby. The Ergo Baby is the one we use, the other two we donated to the salvation army. We also had 2 slings.
The huge advantage the Ergo has is the waist strap. This shifts a significant amount of weight to your hips. Otherwise the entire weight is held on your shoulders, which gets to be quite uncomfortable after a while.
By putting the weight on your hips, the Ergo Baby makes it possible to carry a child who weighs more and for a longer period of time. I wish we’d found this with our first child, as it would have saved us money (for the other ones we bought) and our aching backs!!!!
There’s also a couple of pockets – one with a zipper. Excellent place to place your cell phone, wallet, etc. The Snugli had a pocket with snap, while the Bjorn had none. The Ergo is not as sleek and attractive as our navy blue Bjorn. Our Ergo was a gift and it came in a pale turquoise. I reckon the black Ergo looks better, but it’s still not as sleek and stylish as the Baby Bjorn. Frankly, after a few weeks of a newborn crying at all hours, looking hip comes way down the list after comfort, convenience and sleep…. Just saying…
The only complaint would be that it takes some practice to use the side carry and rear carry positions. The DVD does show how it’s done, but it really helps to have someone who is familiar with the process or have someone spotting you the first time you use it in these positions.
If you’ve found this review helpful, please let me know!
Best Carrier BAR NONE!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had 3 kids and in that time tried soooooo many carriers. Snuggli and baby bjorn and so many more of the “top” brands. NONE compare to the ergo. For any baby large enough to fit in it, this is the most convenient and comfortable for both parent and child!
Recently took my son on his first hiking trip. We had a fantastic time! I also have the Ergo Baby Child Carrier Back Pack Accessory – Camel. Works wonderfully!
A Lifesaver!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My daughter likes this carrier. I reckon this is because she feels close to mama but still able to go a bit and look around a lot. And it is super comfortable for me, too. Highly recommend it. Very simple to use.
super comfy (bjorn owner)
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My 14 month ancient daughter who is about 24 LBS feels so light in this baby carrier. I am a Bjorn owner. My daughter is just too heavy for the Bjorn these days. I needed something to walk my daughter two blocks to the beach in. She can walk, but it takes forever. I carried her in the Bjorn and my back and shoulders were killing me for a excellent 4-5 days. All of the weight of the child is carried in your hips, not shoulders and back.
The delivery was amazingly quick! I reckon it showed up the very next day. Fantastic seller!
The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was due to the fact that I cannot get my daughter in this thing. I watched the whole video, and I cannot get her on my back without help from my husband. We can do the front way, but we cannot not do the back. He can’t get her on his back either. It is really hard. I reckon if we started off with a small baby rather than a toddler we might have stood a chance. I wish they would sew the instructions to the inside of the straps like the Bjorn does. Don’t get me incorrect, I like the Bjorn, but not for a toddler. This is toddler friendly without breaking your back.
I don’t know how my daughter feels about it. She’s usually very animated and pleased, but she is super cool and docile in this carrier. I can’t tell if it is soothing or if she’s just bored silly. To each their own.
The Best carrier out there (that i’ve tried)
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After trying 4 other carriers this carrier is 100x better than all of them. It’s very comfortable & my daughter likes likes it. I got it when she was 3.5 months & she’s just turning 5 months tomorrow & is about 16 lbs & 26″. I also have back & neck problems but can wear this for hours without any pain. Highly recommended!
Fantastic carrier for my terrible back
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I like this carrier — it makes my baby pleased and it is much simpler on the back than the Baby Bjorn or a sling. My baby is still only 10 lbs, but I reckon this will be the best carrier for us over time because it puts the weight onto your hips. One of the fantastic features is that it can be used to free your hands right from birth, no matter how small the baby, unlike the Bjorn. (Requires the infant insert, or a semi-stiff folded blanket as a substitute). As the baby grows, he can be shifted from the front to the back.
My husband and I both have ancient back injuries but we have both found that we can carry him for much longer in the Ergo than in our arms or in any of the other carriers we’ve tried. We not only carry him around the house in it, but I am also carrying him in it on my daily walk to get back into better post-partum fitness. It was recommended by a friend who took her kids hiking with it for several years.
My five year ancient fits in it!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am 4 months pregnant and when I got this I was dying to try it out…since my dog wouldn’t hold still (its a joke) I grabed my FIVE year ancient boy and made him do it. SUPRISE SUPRISE, It held him perfectly!! He loved it and we felt secure enough I was able to piggy back him up the stairs and everything. We tried the font position too but that was ackward because of my belly and he kept moving his head because he thought I would and a kiss him (boys…)
We are plotting a trip to London and I was thinking this would be perfect to take to the Airport and just have him strapped to me. I am terrified of him running off. This would make everyone feel better since I know he’ll be tired so he can rest, my nerves would be at ease and my husband won’t have to be screaming at him to walk quicker. Win win!
THE BEST!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is THE BEST carrier I’ve ever used! I only wish I had found it sooner. My son is nearly 7 months ancient and LIKES this carrier. He’s been in it for a few hours a day for a week now – EVERY TIME I place him in it he falls asleep.
Like the other reviews, I’ve owned Bjorn, sling, and moby wrap -and all of these had significant strain on my back. And my son would get uncomfortable after a small time. When I’d take him out of those his crotch/bottom area would be red and irritated. (AND my sons legs were always getting stuck in the Bjorn, it was hard for me get him in and out of it.)
These problems DO NOT happen with the Ergo carrier! They are not ‘suspended’ but in a sitting position. My son does not get uncomfortable, and I can wear this for long periods of time. Very simple to place on! AND very simple to switch positions without taking the carrier or baby off you!
ALSO no strain on me! I was skeptical of this part because EVERY carrier I’ve ever tried was usually a major strain on my shoulders and back. I’m 5’2″ and 120lbs and carrying a baby that’s 23lbs for hours is hard. The first time I wore the Ergo carrier I had it on for two hours… NO PAIN! I was completely fine! When you place it on you can immediately feel how the weight is distributed between your hips and shoulders. Only when I say shoulders I really mean where the front center buckle is. So instead of slumping your shoulders back, it pulls your entire upper shoulder area back really giving you better posture.
I LIKE LIKE LIKE the material! It’s a cotton canvas. SO strong and sturdy seeming. The buckles are a nice thick plastic. The safety elastics before the buckles are a fantastic feature and make me feel like the whole thing is VERY sturdy!
Another note: with other carriers (esp the Bjorn) I felt as if my son would fall out of it, I never felt secure enough to really do much when carrying him. I always had a hand on him, and quick sudden movements were a NO. With this carrier I feel like my son is secure and close enough to me to allow for quick movements and two hands for doing everything I need to! That was a HUGE thing for me. It’s absolutely incredible!
SO in conclusion… this thing is incredible and anyone would be CRAZY to pass it up. It’s going to be a life saver for me. We are heading to CA in a few days and I’m having to glide alone with my two boys (3yrs. & 6mos.) and I feel completely confident I can do it now that I have this carrier! Bought the back pack as well (same incredible quality) to make the trip even simpler!!
LoooOOOOoooOoove it!
Excellent on back, but…
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The Ergo Baby Carrier is much better on my back than the Bijourn. But, I never use it because using the infant attachment is so complicated. Now that my daughter is 5 months, she doesn’t want to be laying down in the attachment, but she’s too small to straddle my waist, and I’m thin. Also, my baby wants to see what is going on, and the Ergo doesn’t face forward. I have tried it on the hip and that’s excellent on my back but strains my neck and shoulder. I reckon this will be excellent when she’s older, if she’ll stay in it that is. I don’t remember putting my first child in a sling much past 6 mos. Using it as a back carrier may be excellent for hikes, or crowded places.
When she was a newborn, she did always fall asleep when I carried her in this.
Best carrier on the market–esp. with a terrible back!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
With my first child, we tried and failed at using a sling. With baby #2 (thirteen years later) we tried everything. Seriously-everything. We always came back to the Ergo. As a former gymnast and a small person (5’2″, 125#) living in Houston, the wraps and other options either caused pain, didn’t fit or were just too darned hot for us and our son.
The Ergo is a right blessing and the baby happily spends hours in it and did so from two months ancient until now–nearly a year later, with years more of expected use ahead of us. I can nurse the baby in it, then switch him around to my back (without having to remove it) and he naps blissfully there. It goes from me to my husband in seconds and never hurts my back or neck at all, since the weight is centered on my hips.
I’ve really found that my chronic pain has diminished and my posture has improved since we started using it everywhere we go. I’ve even worn the baby for five hour stints at work (standing on cement) and felt ready for more. My baby is pleased to be riding comfortably with Mama and up where he can see and interact with other people, yet still retreat away when he needs to. I also like that the Ergo doesn’t hold babies perfectly upright but sitting naturally in a pouch, which is far better for healthy spinal development. Whenever we see babies sitting or lying in strollers, we feel sorry for them and for their parents for how much they’re missing out on. People comment upon how pleased and cool our son is and we know that part of that stems from being worn every day. Everywhere we go we’re questioned about the Ergo and the bottom line is—WE LIKE IT!!!!
Best for 15+ lb babies
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
When my baby was under 4 months ancient he despised the Ergo. He absolutely detested being smooshed awkwardly up against my chest, so we used an original bjorn carrier for his first few months. Then when my son passed the 15 lb mark and was able to straddle my torso we switched to the Ergo. It takes most of the weight off your back and it’s very simple to take on and off. Bottom line: There is no perfect baby carrier for all ages and stages of development; but I reckon the Ergo is the best carrier out there for older babies.
the MOST comfortable carrier but with limitations…
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I am a babywearer, mostly for the convenience of having my baby on my person instead of lugging a stroller around, but the bonding time is a fantastic benefit! I suffered with the Bjorn all through my first child’s infancy, but found the back strain progressed to intolerable by the time she 12-15 lbs. I learned the ergo during my second child’s infancy and used it with the insert. It’s certainly been the most comfortable carrier for me and my DD. Liked it too that my husb could quickly adjust it to fit himself as well. Yet I found it bulky both to wear under a coat and when just carrying it around (esp traveling). I finished up using the Hotsling when DD was ancient enough to sit up on my hip (early- like 3months); even got my husb his own. Sling folds up easily into diaper bag; can work under a coat; quick on/off; doesn’t emphasize my “mommy-pooch” like the ergo’s waist strap does! Now DD is 1yo and I’m back to the ergo for my back’s sake. I’m revisiting all the ancient feelings as well…bulky to carry, hard to wear UNDER a coat, despise the muffin-top the strap makes around my hips and belly. Am finding it hard to quickly adjust from front/back to side-carry as well. Ah, the sacrifices…
