Let me start this off by saying that I have tried just about every carrier out there. Snugli, Hotsling, Hip Hammock, mai-tais and various other slings and carriers. By the time my son was 1 and I still hadn’t found one I liked I had nearly given up on baby wearing. I’m a larger girl with a huge bust and terrible back. Nothing was comfortable for me. I borrowed a friends Ergo and for me it was still uncomfortable. I also didn’t like that I had to use the waist extender. But as far as carriers go it worked out the best for me. Until I did some online searching. I found the butterfly and read about it. There were so many fantastic features. One of my favorite is that I could take my son off of me and transfer him to my partner without taking him out. I also felt MUCH safer putting him on my back with the Beco instead of the Ergo. But that’s just me. The largest selling point for me was that it came with everything whereas with the Ergo you had to buy the extras.

Now I have a 6 week ancient and haven’t used any carrier but this one. I like it so much!

“Baby Bargains” readers BEWARE – this is NOT a forward facing front carrier!

I gave this product 3 stars because it seems like a nice enough product, but I don’t see what distinguishes it from the less expensive Ergo Carrier, except fashion. I bought it because I made the mistake of believing the book “Baby Bargains” when it specifically said that what distinguishes it from the Ergo Carrier is the fact that it can be used in the forward facing position. But, this is not right! And I foolishly didn’t do my homework. I am not impressed enough by fashion to spend a few dozen extra bucks on the Beco Baby Carrier.

Not as comfortable for infants over 15lbs

I bought a gorgeous Becco hoping that it would replace my bulkier Ergo for the summer months. In addition, the infant insert seemed intriguing to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the Becco to be as comfortable as my Ergo—which was sad because it really is gorgeous. I found that once your infant becomes a small larger, the infant insert really causes more strain on your shoulders. The extra panel limits how low you can rest the waist band on your hips. I’m only 5 ft 2 in, and found to make the shoulder straps comfy, I had to place the waist band slightly below my belly button instead of on my hips, so baby’s weight was not on my hips as I prefer. Plus, I found that trying to mount baby on my back already in the carrier/insert and swinging her on my back was really unstable and unsafe. It’s really much more secure to place baby on your back and flip the carrier over her and not vice versa…imagine swinging a 25lb squirmy backpack on your back while trying to keep it really upright…once you get one arm through and baby is hanging, it’s really hard to get the other strap on! One other alternative to the Ergo is the Boba carrier. I don’t have it, but is lighter weight and has a higher back than the Ergo…the two main features that are relative negatives of the Ergo. For now, I’m sticking with my tried and right Ergo…still using daily.

    Extremely comfortable!

I bought a Beco Butterfly 2 after my son outgrew the Bjorn.

First off, I just have to say that the Bjorn killed my back and shoulders. From what I’ve researched, it’s also terrible for baby’s spine and joints.

The Beco, but, is so much better for the wearer and baby. For wearer, it places weight on your hips, rather than your back and shoulders. For baby, it supports the baby in a natural sitting position.

I have been using the Beco for 1-2 months now for my now 23-pound son. I like it. We use it when we run errands or do chores around the house. As long as I adjust the straps properly, I don’t feel discomfort in my back or shoulders. My son likes riding in the back carry around the house. He kicks his feet in excitement every time.

I like that I can use the Beco for front or back carry. The back carry took some practice, but I can get my son on my back by myself.

My husband also likes using the Beco. He finds it to be comfortable and simple to use.

The instructional DVD that comes with the Beco is quite helpful. If you buy this product, you should watch it for info on how to use the Beco safely.

The Beco is a small pricey, but the comfort and ease of use make it worth the price! Highly recommend!

    Gorgeous Beco Butterfly Baby Carrier

These are a cut above the rest. Simple to use, and fantastic to look at, these Becco baby carriers are my 1st choice. As a 1st time mom, and long time subway traveler (I live in NYC) I needed something strong and dependable. This is it. Pricey but worth it. Doesn’t dangle the child by the legs like Baby Bjorn, but supports the whole body.

Or, Where Were These 31 Years Ago…

After looking at the pro’s and con’s of the numerous baby carriers out there, I chose on purchasing a Beco Butterfly II for my daughter’s first baby. I will admit there was an ulterior motive – my upper body strength isn’t that fantastic and I was going to help out with the newborn. I wanted to be able to carry the baby but wanted to have my arms and hands free since I like to multitask. We chose the Beco Butterfly II for many reasons.

The Beco was highly recommended by a number of maternity shops; these shops carried several brands, so it wasn’t just to make the sale of a Beco. The similarity to a excellent backpack was egnomically vital since two of the grandparents have back problems; the Beco distributed weight evenly and provided lower back support. The adjustability of the carrier was paramount since there are six users who range from 5′1″ in height to 5′ 10″ and whose weights range from 110 to over 200 pounds. All of the four grandparents and both parents have been able to use the Beco with no problems. Further, the Beco is comfortable even when you are toting a 10 pound two week ancient baby for extended periods of time. I have worn the Beco when sitting and have had no problems typing while wearing it.

My grandson was having some distress with spitting up after he ate. The doctor suggested keeping him upright for 30 minutes after feeding. We found this was very useful for that purpose; as an additional benefit, we found my grandson remained much more cool when carried in the Beco.

I would certainly recommend watching the DVD before using the Beco. It answered the questions we had about using the Beco which we did not feel were clearly addressed in the pamphlet that came with the carrier. Yes, this item is a bit pricey, but it is right in line with the better baby carriers out there.

If you do not like the patterns shown on Amazon, check the Beco web site. They show all the current options and provide information as to where specific patterns can be bought.

I like this carrier! I’m petite (5′ 1″) and my son is about 15 lbs already and this carrier is really comfortable for me. I can take him grocery shopping and do a huge shop and not feel any pain carrying him like I did with the Baby Bjorn. My husband wears him in the Bjorn. My son likes facing outward in the Bjorn better, but doesn’t seem to mind facing me. He just turns his head from side to side to look at everything. I highly recommend this carrier!

    Fantastic! Comparable to Ergo
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After much debate over the Ergo versus the Beco, I went with the Beco. I was able to try on the Ergo in the store but the Beco was available only online– so it was kind of a shot in the dark :-)

I have to start by saying the Ergo AND the Beco are FANTASTIC carriers. You can’t go incorrect and will like either one that you choose. I liked the Beco just a smidge better for a number of reasons (more personal taste than anything).

First, the Ergo felt kinda bulky. The shoulder straps seemed a bit too pouffy and the rest of the pack seemed bulkier too. The Ergo is incredibly comfy too though. Secondly, I was buying a carrier for my first baby– at the time 5 weeks ancient. The infant insert seemed pretty bulky and hard, and it worried me a bit that the baby was just lying sideways in the carrier… it seemed kind of unsecured as there was nothing to prevent him from just sliding out the side (the ‘burrito’ of the insert and pressure between pack and mom are what keeps him in). Lastly, the style just wasn’t as stylish as the Beco :-)

For the Beco: it is more ’streamlined’ of a feel than the Ergo. Not as bulky without sacrificing comfort. The does have a few more ’snaps’ to deal with than the Ergo– but the Beco is based on outdoor gear backpacks so it was very intuitive to me anyways. For my 5 week ancient, I felt much more confident security-wise putting my 5 week ancient in it. There is an infant insert in addition to the main ’sling’, so there is no way he is sliding out. I’m sure the Beco didn’t intend for this… but I am also able to let my small 5-week ancient’s legs stay criss-cross style (as opposed to opened up against my body) in the carrier. By putting the waist part underneat his criss-crossed legs, it allowed his weight to be carried more by his bottom & legs (rather than ‘hanging’ in the carrier). The main body of the carrier is also a small higher than the Ergo– seems to offer more head support for a kid-o of any age. Although I haven’t tried it, reviewers say it is much simpler to place a child on the back than with the Ergo. Finally– the colors and designs are incredibly gorgeous. I bought the ’sky’ carrier– grey straps with a light blue front and cute small owls. Most designs are very girl-oriented (flowers, swirls, bright colors), and this was one of the few designs I knew my husband wouldn’t mind wearing :-)

Overall, I couldn’t recommend the Beco enough: as comprared to the Ergo… Positives: less bulky, more secure for an infant, higher main body, simpler to place a child on the back, gorgeous design options. Negatives: more clips to deal with (so probably more hard to learn and more steps to place it on), a bit more expensive, probably not as fantastic for a larger person or a larger male, your husband might not want to wear the girly designs!.

I really am enjoying this carrier. I have 4 kids and have used a variety of carriers. I had my 2 month ancient in a Hotsling (LIKE it!!) for a few months but my shoulder started to get sore so I went looking for something better. I loved that this was designed to be ergonomically sound and that it is pretty. We never used the infant insert because my baby was to huge but, it’s nice that it comes with it. I got the Ryan print which I like, it’s masculine enough for hubbie and pretty enough for me. When wearing my son in it, I swear it feels like a gentle hug! He nuzzles right up under my chin and I truely don’t feel the weight of him on me. He feels so cozy! It did take him a few times to adjust from the sling to this but he likes it now! I’m just starting to try him out on my back (he’s 3.5 months now). It’s simple enough to get him there but we still use the front carry more due to age. I tried the back carry a few times with my 2 year ancient niece and she loved it! I could go on and on! It’s simple to adjust. Simple to use. Pretty. And built to last! Highly recommend!!

I am a baby wearer though and through! I have 4 daughters, 9yrs. through 6 months and have used many carriers for all of them. The Bjorn, Sprout Pouch, Peanut Shell, Zolo Wear, Sling-Lings, and up until this one, may fave, the Baby Hawk… I reckon the Baby Hawk has been dethroned to a second place in my pole, (But I still LIKE my Baby Hawk and use it nearly as much as the Beco)… I LIKE my beco-baby carrier! it is the BEST carrier I’ve EVER used for back-carrying, I like it so much!!! It looks cool, feels excellent, is secure, and well, I just like it! I HIGHLY reccomend this product to any mom or mom-to-be!!!
