Product Description

The Beco Butterfly Baby Carrier combines fantastic ergonomics, brilliant weight distribution and stylish design. Every piece is handmade from top quality designer fabric and heavy duty webbing and buckles, and can be used with children from newborns to toddlers, in both front and back carries. The innovative internal sling enables you to securely buckle your baby into the carrier, then handle Baby + Carrier as a single unit. You can place your baby on your back very easily, just like putting on a backpack! The Beco Butterfly's removable infant insert for newborns allows your small baby under 15 pounds to ride higher in the carrier in an ergonomically comfortable position. When your baby outgrows the need for the newborn insert, you simply place her into the main Y shaped internal sling attached to the carrier's shoulder straps, which improves the distribution of the baby's weight and enables parents to pass baby from one wearer to another without taking the baby out of the carrier. The inside panel acts as a safety harness and prevents baby from slipping down or falling out of the carrier. 1) Child can be worn on front or back and easily shifted from one to the other. 2) Tall, tapered carrier body provides lots of upper body support for your baby or toddler, holds baby close to your body for greater comfort. 3) A Sternum (chest) strap is connected to the shoulder straps and slides along their length. 4) Padded waistband is firm and supportive while maintaining a slim profile. 5) High quality designer fabrics are smooth, stylish, and comfortable against the skin. 6) Padded leg holes prevent chafing of small thighs. 7) User waist range fits 25 to 50 inches (63 to127cm). 8) User height range fits from 4 foot 9 to 6 foot 2. (144cm to 188cm). ....read more

After watching the instruction video made putting my daughter into the carrier very simple. My daughter (8 weeks ancient) despised the carrier the first time I place her in it but I reckon it was because I did not adjust the straps correctly, now she likes it and she falls asleep in it every time. Fantastic buy, would order it again in a heartbeat!

This is the carrier I’ve been searching for, literaly for years! I’ve gone through a few different ones with both my kids, but this is by far my favorite. Simple to use, baby likes it, and it allows me to have both hands free without any worries about my baby’s security. I also like that this will grow with my child so I will be able to use it for years to come.

    My Baby Likes It!

I wasn’t sure if my baby would like this thing at all. He despised the moby wrap. I tried over the course of several months to use it, but it never worked. I finally tried this because I needed the option of carrying him long distances. He likes it! I was honestly in shock. We started off wearing it for small periods of time to let him get used to it, but there was no need. One thing, I have not tried nursing in it because he’s only nursing every 4 or 5 hours at this point. He’s 9 months and 24 lbs. and I am comfortable with this even though I have serious back problems. Another HUGE plus for us – my husband can use it even though he’s well over the max height they publish (6’7″, 315 lbs.). Only negative, I can’t wear it on my back because my baby pulls my hair really hard, even with a ponytail. Can’t blame the carrier for that!

I just got my carrier a few days ago and yesterday I used it all day while taking out of town friends around San Francisco. We went on a ferry, to Alcatraz, the street cars and walking all over the city. My 20 month-ancient and I were comfortable and pleased all day. He loved sleeping against my chest in the front carrier hold and was able to see everything while staying warm and cozy in the back carrier hold. The head rest attachment is genius. The fabric is soft and gorgeous (and organic!).

I really can’t say enough excellent things about this product so far. I thought my baby wearing days were over and I am so pleased that this carrier allows me to continue. I haven’t used it with my three year ancient yet (she’s 29 lbs) but I plot to use it with her too.

Another reviewer commented that it wasn’t a excellent fit for petite wearers, but I’m 5’2″ and 125lbs and used it with no problems at all.

I bought the Beco a small over a week ago. I’ve pretty much used it everyday since! I like it and so does my 7.5-month-ancient. He’s a wee one, about 14 lbs, but long. He’s always loved being worn. We have an Ergo and like it to. Before I bought the Beco I researched several of the SSC’s and here is how I compare the Beco to the Ergo-

The Beco is made out of a less stiff fabric than the Ergo. It has a removable hood, whereas the Ergo does not. The largest difference is the inside flap on the Beco that allows you to place the baby in before putting the carrier on. It’s a particularly fantastic feature for back-carrying so that you don’t have to lean over with a wiggly small person on you back. The Beco is also a small more narrow than the Ergo, making it a better fit for a smaller person like me (5’1″), than the Ergo which has become my husband’s carrier (he’s 6’2″). The Beco also comes with an infant insert that is basically another removable flap that fits inside the carrier, as opposed to having to buy an extra insert for the Ergo.

The thing I like least about the Beco (vs. the Ergo) is that I can nurse discretely, without a problem in the Ergo, but it’s much more hard in the Beco. The hood that snaps onto the front and fits over the baby’s head is pretty narrow as compared to the one on the Ergo and provides no real cover for nursing. The greater issue is the inside flap- though awesome for putting babies on our back, it fits tight against your chest and is virtually impossible to go so as to allow you to nurse.

Overall, though, I really like my Beco!

    So Impressed With This Product
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars

This is my first review on Amazon, but I was so impressed that I felt compelled to write. We own a Moby and my son (who has colic) calms down when carried upright on my chest. But, the Moby requires two people to place it on, is made of heavy material and therefore is hot, and because it is fabric, never really felt really secure. I did a lot of research looking for a new carrier and people who had a lot of experience with baby wearing seemed to like the Beco. After receiving the product, I really agree. It’s not inexpensive, but as another reviewer wrote, it’s not a piece of junk. The material is fantastic, the clips open and close easily (unlike the cheap clips in a bouncy seat or swing that pinch and are impossible to pull apart), and it is well designed. It is very simple to use, doesn’t hurt my back or shoulders, and is lightweight enough that it doesn’t unnecessarily add to the natural heat of baby wearing. I like that the infant insert was included and I didn’t have to buy it separately as required with other carriers and I found the instructional DVD very helpful. All in all, a fantastic product worth every penny.

    Not excellent for petite people
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I ordered this carrier because it was so highly rated. Problem is I am small waisted and petite (5’2″) and no matter how much I adjust the carrier, it just doesn’t fit. I need about two more inches in my torso for it to fit well. I also have a Baby Bjorn, sling, and a huge metal framed backpack, but I ordered this one to have a soft pack that goes on your back. I am sad because it was so expensive. I am now going to try a mei tei that ties instead of buckles, that way I can adjust it to my size.

    SO COMFORTABLE!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I searched high and low for a excellent, soft-structured carrier and chose on the Beco because it clips (my husband wouldn’t go for a tie carrier), it’s weighted from 7+ lbs with no need to buy an extra insert, and it’s cute! It is super simple to use and place the baby in, and even better…. it’s really comfortable to wear. My husband and I frequently go for walks in the evenings and I have no distress wearing my 18+ lb son for an hour long walk. I wore it this past weekend when we went to our garden nursery and it was so simple to be able to have my hands free to pick things up. Had he been in a stroller I wouldn’t have been able to carry much while pushing the stroller at the same time. My husband and I are even able to pass him back and forth without taking him out of the carrier. I like how it can even be used in it’s rolled up stored position as a “shelf” for a hip carry for a toddler!

My son likes to too and had no distress being in it for 2.5 hours when we were at the nursery. He even falls asleep in it, and for my small man that says something since he has never liked to fall asleep upright.

(I must point out that since I got this when my son was 5 months ancient, I never used the infant insert so cannot comment on that.)

Bottom line: I highly recommend this carrier. It’s expensive for a reason… it’s not a piece of junk!

Best buy I made for baby!!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I spent hours upon hours researching baby carriers. I did not like what people were saying about the standard baby bjorn carrier and how it cased back pain. I knew there would be a lot of walks and time spent in the carrier so I was ready to drop some cash. After all the research I chose upon the Beco carrier because I liked the internal pocket and how the infant insert was included. The prints were super cute and I was so excited to receive my carrier. I checked the mail every day in anticipation and when I finally received it I was over the moon. My baby likes being in the carrier and it is so functional and simple to use. One thing that has helped a lot is that if it cool I wrap a blanket around the straps to cover him. Also I thought the head thing was a weird concept, that is until I was walking through the neighborhood and he wanted to take a nap. Then the purpose became clear and I keep it handy.

This is the best carrier I’ve ever used! I bought it for my 4th child and it is the most comfortable carrier I have. And it’s gorgeous! I get so many compliments. I also like that I don’t have to take my daughter out of the carrier in order to place her on my back, thanks to the bit of fabric between me and her. I’ve even turned her from back to front while she was asleep, and she didn’t wake up. I tried the Ergo, but found the Beco to be much more comfortable and convenient for putting her on my back. Even my friends who have Ergos wish they had my Beco.

    Comfy and simple to use
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My son is very heavy and wants to be carried all the time! The beco is comfortable and I can place him in it in about 10 seconds. It’s a small pricey, but worth it. The straps are kind of annoying at first, but after a few tries, I figured out the right position and they seem to give a lot of support. At first, I had it too loose and my son was fussy. I have the bjorn and the straps were digging into my stomach. And my back hurt too. I also have the moby which was fantastic when he was very small, but it would take a while to get on and I had to keep readjusting it. My son also started to get really squirmy in it. I have the peanut shell sling, but he doesn’t like being carried that way. It’s also pretty thin so it doesn’t make us as hot as the bjorn or moby. That said, I reckon you will feel warm with your baby in any carrier! I hope you delight in your beco as much as I do!

Let me start this off by saying that I have tried just about every carrier out there. Snugli, Hotsling, Hip Hammock, mai-tais and various other slings and carriers. By the time my son was 1 and I still hadn’t found one I liked I had nearly given up on baby wearing. I’m a larger girl with a huge bust and terrible back. Nothing was comfortable for me. I borrowed a friends Ergo and for me it was still uncomfortable. I also didn’t like that I had to use the waist extender. But as far as carriers go it worked out the best for me. Until I did some online searching. I found the butterfly and read about it. There were so many fantastic features. One of my favorite is that I could take my son off of me and transfer him to my partner without taking him out. I also felt MUCH safer putting him on my back with the Beco instead of the Ergo. But that’s just me. The largest selling point for me was that it came with everything whereas with the Ergo you had to buy the extras.

Now I have a 6 week ancient and haven’t used any carrier but this one. I like it so much!

“Baby Bargains” readers BEWARE – this is NOT a forward facing front carrier!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I gave this product 3 stars because it seems like a nice enough product, but I don’t see what distinguishes it from the less expensive Ergo Carrier, except fashion. I bought it because I made the mistake of believing the book “Baby Bargains” when it specifically said that what distinguishes it from the Ergo Carrier is the fact that it can be used in the forward facing position. But, this is not right! And I foolishly didn’t do my homework. I am not impressed enough by fashion to spend a few dozen extra bucks on the Beco Baby Carrier.

Not as comfortable for infants over 15lbs
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought a gorgeous Becco hoping that it would replace my bulkier Ergo for the summer months. In addition, the infant insert seemed intriguing to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the Becco to be as comfortable as my Ergo—which was sad because it really is gorgeous. I found that once your infant becomes a small larger, the infant insert really causes more strain on your shoulders. The extra panel limits how low you can rest the waist band on your hips. I’m only 5 ft 2 in, and found to make the shoulder straps comfy, I had to place the waist band slightly below my belly button instead of on my hips, so baby’s weight was not on my hips as I prefer. Plus, I found that trying to mount baby on my back already in the carrier/insert and swinging her on my back was really unstable and unsafe. It’s really much more secure to place baby on your back and flip the carrier over her and not vice versa…imagine swinging a 25lb squirmy backpack on your back while trying to keep it really upright…once you get one arm through and baby is hanging, it’s really hard to get the other strap on! One other alternative to the Ergo is the Boba carrier. I don’t have it, but is lighter weight and has a higher back than the Ergo…the two main features that are relative negatives of the Ergo. For now, I’m sticking with my tried and right Ergo…still using daily.

    Extremely comfortable!

I bought a Beco Butterfly 2 after my son outgrew the Bjorn.

First off, I just have to say that the Bjorn killed my back and shoulders. From what I’ve researched, it’s also terrible for baby’s spine and joints.

The Beco, but, is so much better for the wearer and baby. For wearer, it places weight on your hips, rather than your back and shoulders. For baby, it supports the baby in a natural sitting position.

I have been using the Beco for 1-2 months now for my now 23-pound son. I like it. We use it when we run errands or do chores around the house. As long as I adjust the straps properly, I don’t feel discomfort in my back or shoulders. My son likes riding in the back carry around the house. He kicks his feet in excitement every time.

I like that I can use the Beco for front or back carry. The back carry took some practice, but I can get my son on my back by myself.

My husband also likes using the Beco. He finds it to be comfortable and simple to use.

The instructional DVD that comes with the Beco is quite helpful. If you buy this product, you should watch it for info on how to use the Beco safely.

The Beco is a small pricey, but the comfort and ease of use make it worth the price! Highly recommend!

Or, Where Were These 31 Years Ago…

After looking at the pro’s and con’s of the numerous baby carriers out there, I chose on purchasing a Beco Butterfly II for my daughter’s first baby. I will admit there was an ulterior motive – my upper body strength isn’t that fantastic and I was going to help out with the newborn. I wanted to be able to carry the baby but wanted to have my arms and hands free since I like to multitask. We chose the Beco Butterfly II for many reasons.

The Beco was highly recommended by a number of maternity shops; these shops carried several brands, so it wasn’t just to make the sale of a Beco. The similarity to a excellent backpack was egnomically vital since two of the grandparents have back problems; the Beco distributed weight evenly and provided lower back support. The adjustability of the carrier was paramount since there are six users who range from 5’1″ in height to 5′ 10″ and whose weights range from 110 to over 200 pounds. All of the four grandparents and both parents have been able to use the Beco with no problems. Further, the Beco is comfortable even when you are toting a 10 pound two week ancient baby for extended periods of time. I have worn the Beco when sitting and have had no problems typing while wearing it.

My grandson was having some distress with spitting up after he ate. The doctor suggested keeping him upright for 30 minutes after feeding. We found this was very useful for that purpose; as an additional benefit, we found my grandson remained much more cool when carried in the Beco.

I would certainly recommend watching the DVD before using the Beco. It answered the questions we had about using the Beco which we did not feel were clearly addressed in the pamphlet that came with the carrier. Yes, this item is a bit pricey, but it is right in line with the better baby carriers out there.

If you do not like the patterns shown on Amazon, check the Beco web site. They show all the current options and provide information as to where specific patterns can be bought.

I really am enjoying this carrier. I have 4 kids and have used a variety of carriers. I had my 2 month ancient in a Hotsling (LIKE it!!) for a few months but my shoulder started to get sore so I went looking for something better. I loved that this was designed to be ergonomically sound and that it is pretty. We never used the infant insert because my baby was to huge but, it’s nice that it comes with it. I got the Ryan print which I like, it’s masculine enough for hubbie and pretty enough for me. When wearing my son in it, I swear it feels like a gentle hug! He nuzzles right up under my chin and I truely don’t feel the weight of him on me. He feels so cozy! It did take him a few times to adjust from the sling to this but he likes it now! I’m just starting to try him out on my back (he’s 3.5 months now). It’s simple enough to get him there but we still use the front carry more due to age. I tried the back carry a few times with my 2 year ancient niece and she loved it! I could go on and on! It’s simple to adjust. Simple to use. Pretty. And built to last! Highly recommend!!

I am a baby wearer though and through! I have 4 daughters, 9yrs. through 6 months and have used many carriers for all of them. The Bjorn, Sprout Pouch, Peanut Shell, Zolo Wear, Sling-Lings, and up until this one, may fave, the Baby Hawk… I reckon the Baby Hawk has been dethroned to a second place in my pole, (But I still LIKE my Baby Hawk and use it nearly as much as the Beco)… I LIKE my beco-baby carrier! it is the BEST carrier I’ve EVER used for back-carrying, I like it so much!!! It looks cool, feels excellent, is secure, and well, I just like it! I HIGHLY reccomend this product to any mom or mom-to-be!!!
